January 2012 Gardeners NAL and Conservation Report – Fiscal Cliff

The GCA has been interested in conservation issues right from the start. The interesting history of the GCA tells us the first beginnings of the Conservation and NAL committees almost 100 years ago. The Gardeners Partnership With Rushton Farms: September Workday

In September, as part of our Conservation Committee Project for 2012, nine members of the Gardeners and two tiny helpers went to work planting native flowering plants in the community garden area of Rushton Farms in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Rushton Farms is part of Willistown Conservancy, whom we have partnered with in the past when we created a rain garden at their headquarters.

Conservation Field Trip to Wyck and Stenton

In 1913, several members of the Garden Club of Philadelphia joined with several women from other local gardening associations to form the larger Garden Club of America. The first meeting of the Garden Club of America took place on May 1, 1913 at Stenton, the Logan family estate in Germantown. This year as part of our outreach money, The Gardeners gave a sizable donation to Stention to help them prepare their gardens for the GCA Centennial celebration in 2013.
