Where Your Members Have Been

Read and see below where your members were volunteering at Stoneleigh or visiting gardens that benefit from the PCGCA Fertilizer Fund:

Stoneleigh  Volunteering– September 20

Seven of us arrived with diggers to remove weeds and clippers to remove vines—Sandy Beale, Eileen Longacre, Bonnie Buchak, Presley Schwinn, Sally Bauer, Wyn Coghlan and Connie Stelzenmuller.  We were rained out on our regular first Tuesday of the month and this was our fill-in date.  It was a beautiful, dry fall day.  We usually have Lindsey ...

Pruning Workshop

Today, Tuesday, March 8, 2022 was cold and windy, but that didn’t stop a mighty group of our gardeners from enjoying the pruning workshop at Stoneleigh in Villanova.

A big thanks goes to Sandy Beale our civic engagement chair who organized this workshop with Sam Nestory of Stoneleigh.  You can see from the pictures below we were on our hands and knees getting down and dirty pruning in this lovely garden.  Some examples of what we learned was how to prune ...

Protected: Flowers Have a Healing Power

Holly Amsterdam organized a group of The Gardeners for our Ronald McDonald workshop.

On Thursday, November 5, Holly Amsterdam, Bonnie Buchak, Presley Schwinn, Regina Baime, Judy Shekmar and Connie Stelzenmuller gathered to make large and small arrangements for the Ronald McDonald House on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia. The RMD folks preferred that we make the arrangements off-site and then deliver to their Ludlow Street ...

The Gardeners Have a Weed Wrangle

Our Weed Wrangle at Stoneleigh

On Tuesday, November 2, The Gardeners gathered for a Weed Wrangle for their last workday at Stoneleigh. We’ll be back as a group in April 2022. It was damp and overcast, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying being together.

We mostly worked on the long median garden in the parking lot that collects a lot of the rain water runoff. We used our hori hori garden knives, Japanese weeding sickles; and other hand weeders ...

October at Stoneleigh

I’m giving thank-you’s to Margot Patterson, Bonnie Buchak, Judy Shekmar, Judi Garst and Michele Spence, who made it to the Stoneleigh work day today, Tuesday, October 5. We enjoyed one another.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have Sandy Beale, our chair or Sarah Collier our vice chair.  Sandy fell backward down a set of stairs on her backside and banged herself up.  Sarah is still recovering from her fall and must wear her collar for another two months.

For those of you who couldn’t ...

The Gardeners on the Move

Our garden club members are on the move doing and seeing interesting and important outreach in Zone V activities as well as in our own club.  We are rapidly coming to the end of the calendar year and thought this would be a good time to write up some of the activities that The Gardeners have already participated and look forward to finishing our fiscal year with Christmas arrangements for Surrey Services, Eldernet and Inglis House and a big trip ...

Protected: Spectacular Gardeners’ Annual Party 2018

We don’t have the final numbers for the annual party fund raiser at Michele and Larry Jameson’s house on June 5, but rumor has it that it was hugely successful—a record breaker.

The gathering was fun both indoors and outdoors. Yes it rained, but the tent over the patio protected the bar and guests, while inside more guests were easily accommodated as they placed their bids for the silent auction and filled containers with their raffle tickets. The generosity of our ...

The Gardeners “Storm” the PHS Flower Show with a Win, Win, Win

Entering the PHS Flower Show is a long demading process in so many ways and you really need to kneel before our members who think nothing of going through this process year after year.  If you can make your way through the PHS catalog to decide on the category that you will enter for Horticulture, Flower Arranging or an exhibit, that’s only the beginning of a very structured process.  You have your choice of filling out your online form with ...
