Gardeners Win the 2013 Trophy at the Philadelphia International Flower Show

This year the Gardeners were excited to hear that we had once again won the Dorothy Buckley Zantzinger Award (otherwise know as the trophy with the antler handles, named after Stewart Spahr’s Aunt) for most points in Horticulture and Artistic Competitive Classes at the Philadelphia International Flower Show! Members worked diligently on the beautifully executed Club Entry, a Shop Window, under the Leadership of Eileen Longacre and Wyn Coghlan. Helpers included a support team of Lynn Seeburger and Becky Wein on set production, with additional assistance (and snacks) from Yvonne Bartman, Janine Weller, Connie Stelzenmuller and Betsy Crowell. This year’s artistic entries included several by Eileen Longacre, and Sidney Spahr, plus an entry by Holly Amsterdam, jewelry from Dora Rogers and a Blue ribbon Coat of Arms by Gretchen Riley and Blue Ribbon Crown Jewels from Pat Fernandez.  In the brand new Hamilton Horticourt , Deb Donaldson had a whopping grand total of 1691 points, including many blues and three best of the day succulent rosettes; Deb was ably assisted by a number of club members in getting all her plants to the show floor. Barbara Geltosky and Gretchen Riley’s hort entries helped nudge the Gardeners Over the Top. The Flower Show is a joint effort of so many Gardeners, whether entering or volunteering or helping get plants to the show; it truly does take a village, and a great round of thanks got to all that entered or helped. We hope even more of the members will consider entering next year.
