Here is what the chairs of the Public Parks and Gardens Committee–Cathy Decker and DeeDee Heyward— sent you following the May workday:
“Many thanks to Anne Barnett, Wyn Coghlan, Sarah Collier and Connie Stelzenmuller. Plantings put in last year in the Triangle Bed are doing well. Fothergilla is in exceptional blossom! We look forward to all of the perennials donated by Sandy Beale to be making an appearance soon. The usual weeding was done in various beds. Many ferns were removed behind Water Wheel to make room for 5 red twig dogwoods, which look very nice surrounding the newly planted replacement dogwood Cornus Florida. Two more dogwood trees were planted by Davey Trees and Roy Sandstrum of The Grange–one in the grove by pathway behind water wheel and one by the house front porch. These 3 dogwood trees are part of the Tree Trades grant. It was decided that another dogwood, serviceberry and witch hazel would complete the grove, leaving it open and airy for spring bloomers. Paw-Paw trees (number to be determined based on size and price) will be planted along with current paw-paw trees in hopes to have them bear fruit. These trees will also be part of the Tree Trades grant. Please take a look at our blog for pictures taken by Connie today of various beds.
Our next workday at The Grange is Tuesday, June 2 beginning at 9AM so mark your calender, come help out and enjoy the beauty and serenity The Grange has to offer!”
And here I offer you a snapshot of the work that the group did in May and the serenity that was enjoyed. Especially notice that the new stage is almost complete and our group is part of an early performance:
