Recently your Photography Committee had an educational workshop on flat lay Photography. What is Flatlay Photography? According to my search on the internet–A flat lay is simply an image shot directly from above – a bird’s eye view of an array of carefully arranged objects.

I asked Bonnie Buchak, our Photography Chair, to give us some information about the workshop and here is what she said:

“On October 17, eight members of the Gardeners GC met with Kate Fahey, a photography judge Zone V, and member of Four Counties GC, to learn about creating our own flat lays. Flat lay photography combines floral design, horticulture, and photography in a fun and accessible way.

Simply put, a design is created on a flat board, photographed, and edited. In attendance were Wyn Coghlan, Sally Bauer, Wendy Morse, Jill Inverso, Sarah Collier, Joan Agran, Margot Patterson, and Bonnie Buchak.

It was a very successful hands-on workshop as Kate Fahey, a photography judge, explained what flat lay photography is, led us through the ins and outs of designing a flat lay, and then let us create our own. The floral flat lay is Jill Inverso’s beautiful example of flat lay photography created at the workshop. Look for other examples of our work at the Gardener’s club photography show in February.
