An Amazing Maintenance Day

Flowers Among Flowers

What a wonderful turnout for our Fall 2022 maintenance day at St. John’s Presbyterian Church on Monday, October 17. We have a meaningful relationship with St. John’s for our flower shows. For two maintenance days, we get two meetings a year—can’t beat that.

The weather that was iffy with showers predicted only a few days before, but the day turned out to be sunny and beautiful. The soil was a pleasure to work. The mums provided by Liz Ward and Connie Stelzenmuller were perfect.

Even more interesting was that our plantings from previous years and just this past Spring, as shown in the photo above, were still thriving. The sunny border near the church welcomes sun- loving plants and the annual “Lantana” that we put in were so happy. I love this photo of our members who showed up for the planting: from left to right—Sally Bauer, Liz Negrey, Bonnie Buchak, Lynn Seeburger, Liz Ward, Cathy Decker and Jane Moore—all dependable, get-your-hands-dirty members of The Gardeners. It took us about an hour to plant and water 15 mums.

In addition, we were able to prune back a shrub to give it time to think about living again and get rid of some vines crawling up the wall of the Carriage House. The club is so grateful for this relationship.
