Betsy Crowell, President welcomed the Gardeners in attendance and thanked everyone who participated in the June flower show. She also thanked today’s hostesses: Carolyn Ramsey, Coordinator, Josselyn McAdam, Patti Wilson, Connie Stelzenmuller, Karen Love and Yvonne Bartman (CG).

Two cards were passed around to be signed: one to Polly Biddle whose husband, Nick, died recently and the other for Joan Harvey whose husband, Jack, died several weeks ago.

Gardeners Win the 2013 Trophy at the Philadelphia International Flower Show

This year the Gardeners were excited to hear that we had once again won the Dorothy Buckley Zantzinger Award (otherwise know as the trophy with the antler handles, named after Stewart Spahr’s Aunt) for most points in Horticulture and Artistic Competitive Classes at the Philadelphia International Flower Show! Gardeners Outreach -Winter 2012

In the last months of 2012, the Gardeners participated in two outreach projects. The first was the decorating of Woodford House in Fairmount Park in November. We were asked to return after a very successful outing last year- this year’s Theme was Rebecca Frank’s tea, and as you can see, the Gardeners did a wonderful job carrying out the theme in the kitchen, dining room and staircase!

Flowers for the Ronald McDonald House

On Monday, November 5th, Betsy Crowell, Karen Helm and Michele Spence made the trip in to The Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia to adorn the public spaces with fresh flower arrangements and bouquets. Karen had purchased the majority of the flowers at Trader Joes on Sunday, and Betsy and Michele each added some more, so that we were able to fill ample vases and brighten up the House. Concourse Lake 2012

On Saturday, October 13, The Gardeners along with other Zone V garden clubs, school children, friends and members of the Concourse Lake community gathered to plant over 15,000 bulbs in preparation for the GCA Centennial that we will celebrate in the Spring.

The Gardeners gathered at the historic Grange mansion and the outbuilding stable for their first flower show of the 2012/2013 year. The Gardeners have a special relationship with The Grange in Havertown as this is our fourth year of gardening on this 10-acre site to help bring back a prominent property. The buildings were developed in stages after the property was bought in 1682. The remaining 10 acres of the 86,024-acre estate was purchased by Haverford Township for preservation. The ...
